Steve Paoli - Guitar, Bass, Technique and lead guitar specialist

After taking up guitar in 2000 as an excuse to escape high school history classes (Editors note: stay in school kids!), Steve found he could not put it down.  Obsessed with the hair bands of the 80s like Poison, Whitesnake, Van Halen, Kiss & Motley Crue and guitar heroes such as Joe Satriani, Steve Vai, Zakk Wylde, Chris Brooks & Yngwie Malmsteen, Steve then went on to study guitar.  Steve has an advanced diploma in popular music, majoring in guitar, a Bachelor of Entertainment & Performance and is currently studying for his Masters in music.  Steve is also in the process of recording an album.

Adam Smyth - Guitar, Bass, Jazz Gtr, Fingerstyle/Classical Guitar

Adam began playing guitar and bass at age 13 and included classical guitar in his studies.  Since then, Adam has played and recorded with numerous pop, rock, jazz, funk and hip-hop artists which has seen him gigging all over NSW.  Adam completed his Bachelor of Music at the Australia Institute of Music in 2007 and was inducted into the Principal's Honour Roll for outstanding achievement in Music Theory and Jazz Improvisation.  His influences include Led Zeppelin, Kurt Rosenwinkel, John Schofield, Tool, Mars Volta, John Coltrane, Cold Chisel and Pat Metheny.

Stephen Eldridge - Violin, Guitar, Bass

Stephen began his musical life on the violin at the age of three-and-a-half.  He was taught by one of Australia's best teachers, Mr Yusaki Nakamura.  Stephen played at the Sydney Opera House and other reputable concert halls in Sydney and Melbourne as a young child.  He completed the Suzuki method at age 16.  At age 12 Stephen picked up the guitar and found a new avenue for his musical pursuits when he started the reputable Sydney heavy metal band Headmess.  Stephen is currently involved in a few projects but has focused his attention towards a new style of rock/metal.

Chris Buchli - Bass, Guitar, Vocals
 
Chris picked up his first bass over 10 years ago, inspired at the time by classic rock like Led Zeppelin and the contemporary bands of the time such as Nirvana and Silverchair.  An accomplished live musician who has played in venues all over Sydney including the Opera House and The Gaelic Club, Chris also plays guitars and sings.  Currently he is the frontman for Sydney rock band Gravital.  Chris' influences include Jeff Buckley, Katie and Tyrone Noonan, Matt Bellamy and Chris Wolstenholme of Muse and Victor Wooten.  You can learn more about Chris and his projects at:

Mark Fleming - Piano, beginner guitar
 

Mark started his musical life with the beginning of his training as a classical pianist in 1998. In the year 2005 he started playing the guitar and in the years after began singing in rock and acoustic groups at school and local charity events. He has just finished his HSC (studying both music 2 and Extension music) and is now starting a Bachelor of Music at the University of Western Sydney, to be followed by a Bachelor of Education allowing him to teach music in secondary schools

 

Christian D'Amico - Vocals, Saxophone, Beg Piano
 

Christian has been playing Sax and singing since the age of 8 and has qualifications from the Australian Guild of Music. He is currently studying Media and Contemporary Music at Macquarie University and performing with his band 'Inappropriate' as lead vocalist and saxophonist. Christian has been a featured vocalist in School Spectacular, Southern Stars and the Sydney Opera House Choral Concert Series. He specializes in teaching vocal technique alongside stagecraft and presentation, essential skills for any building performer in today's competitive environment. He enjoys all genres including modern pop vocals, classical rock style singing, harmony work and even modern metal screaming techniques.

Tim Pederson - Guitar, Bass, Jazz, Metal & Contemporary Guitar
 
Tim learnt to play guitar on Led Zeppelin, Hendrix & other 70’s rock bands. He has played in various bands and is has studied with Jazz Guitarist Guy Strazullo, pursuing Jazz Fusion with a heavy twist. 

Glynn Powell aka G-Rhythm - Drums

Glynn has played drums for over 14 years in which time he has pursued performance-based aspirations in various bands, and completed some AMEB exams in drums and music theory.  He tours the national scene with his band Jack Napier Band and supported acts like Parkway Drive, I killed the Prom queen, Helmet, All Shall Perish and From Autumn to Ashes.  Glynn also worked with Verona and is influenced by many styles and genres.

 

Michael Elsley - Drums & Percussion
 
Inspired by his uncle who is a jazz drumming legend, Michael started playing drums at age 10.  Since then he has studied many varieties and styles and become proficient with many types of hand percussion; African, Middle Eastern, South American, all of which have been highlighted on stage and in the studio.  Combining his percussive skills with contemporary kit drumming with rudimental military, Mick is fluent in styles such as rock, pop, metal, blues, swing, jazz and crazy world grooves.  Mick also specialises in odd time signatures and off-beat rhythms, steering away from four on the floor grooves (not that there's anything wrong with that!).

His influences are varied and are lead by melodic precision and creativity - Buddy Rich, Gene Krupa, Elvin Jones, Dave Weckl, David Jones, Neal Peart and many more.  From the stage to the open road to the studio, Mick has extensive experience playing alongside some of Australia's great musical talents, including a recent performance at the "Rock for Rights" festival at the SCG, where Mick's band Urban Guerrillas graced the stage with Screaming Jets, Hoodoo Gurus, Magic Dirt, Deni Hines and more.

Judith Ju - Piano/Keyboard and Beg Vocals
 

Judith began her love of music and piano at the age of 7 and has been playing and performing for over 20 years. She started off playing in school and small ensembles and developed an interest in classical music. Judith was inspired by beautiful works by composers such as Rachmaninov, Chopin, Liszt, Bach and Brahms. She enrolled at Busan University in South Korea and completed a Bachelor of Music majoring in performance and classical piano. Judith has spent over 10 years teaching piano in music school and academics and enjoys working with students of all ages to help them bring out the best in their musical abilities. She has experience in classical, modern pop, jazz and other styles. She also teaches beginning vocals. In her spare time Judith performs on the weekends as a keyboard/piano player and also mixes bands as a live sound engineer.

Judith is currently on maternity leave

Matt Jones - Acoustic & Electric Guitar, Bass

Matt commenced his guitaring journey at the age of 8, in 1998, idolising international and domestic guitarists such as Jimmy Page, Hendrix, Ian Moss, S.R.V. and Tommy Emanuel. After completing the HSC in 2007, Matt will commence his studies of the bachelor of music at the university of western Sydney in March this year. Playing in a Hendrix/ Led Zeppelin cover band throughout high school, and currently with his acoustic duo, Matt has played at various Sydney venues and prominent bars. In 2006, Matt supported the Bondi Cigars and Jimmy Barnes with his vocal/ acoustic duo. Of late Matt has just returned from a brief tour of the NSW far north coast, playing 8 gigs with his acoustic duo, Phoebe and Matt.

Jarryd Scully - Acoustic & Electric Guitar, Bass

Jarryd's guitar journey began when he was 13 years of age.  Jarryd completed extension music in his HSC and is currently in his 3rd year of a Bachelor of Music at the University of Western Sydney.  He has a passion for music ministry in his church and also does a lot of home recording, the results of which can be heard at www.myspace.com/jarrydscully 
Jo Doorey - Piano, Vocals
 
Jo began playing piano as a bright young 5 year old, progressing through the AMEB piano examinations and specialising ion classic piano.  Jo majored in performance and composition for her HSC in 2005.  During her studies, Jo was exposed to the sounds of musical theatre and jazz, which led to her interest in singing.  In 1999, Jo began vocal training where she progressed through contemporary and singing for leisure exams.  She has appeared on stage in lead roles in various musicals including Sound Of Music, Les Miserables, Annie and Grease.
Nikki Akbari - Piano

Nikki has been playing piano since the age of 9 and has completed her 8th grade AMEB. Since then, she has performed on piano and tuned percussion in a variety of musical ensembles including school concert and stage bands, orchestras and the Lane Cove Concert Band. Nikki has also performed at a number of cultural events, and having completed her HSC in 2008 studying music, has accompanied various HSC performances. She is currently in her second year of study at the University of Sydney.

 

Charlie - voice, French horn, trumpet, piano and guitar
 
Charlie has been studying voice since 1999. trained classically, her interest extends through musical theatre and Jazz to modern rock and pop.  she accompanies herself on guitar (since 2005) and piano (1999) and also enjoys playing the trumpet (1997) and French horn (2002).  She has participated in the Castle Hill RSL band, and been involved in orchestras for local musical theatre.  Charlie aims to teach the enjoyment of music while maintaining a level of achievement and success.  She is currently studying languages ay university and is developing her own musical projects.
Emma Woodorth - Saxophone, Voice, Clarinet
 

Emma started playing clarinet and saxophone in high school bands, developing a love of jazz, which eventually led to an interest in singing.  Emma is inspired by jazz artists like Adrian Cunningham, Ella Fitzgerald, Etta James, Louis Armstrong and other jazz greats.

Emma is currently studying a Bachelor of Music and Education at UNSW as she aspires to be a music teacher.

Kathryn Abercrombie - Flute & Piano

Kathryn has had a passion for music for as long as she can remember. She spent her grade school years learning the piano and flute. Upon entering high school she had greater opportunities to pursue her passions. Widening her horizons, Kathryn began to dabble in trumpet, guitar and drums. Her interest did not only span across several different instruments but also singing placing 4th and then 6th in the county chorus competition. In 2007 she was invited to join a concert tour of Europe, playing flute in 5 different countries; her recent travels have brought her to Australia where she is currently studying music at Hillsong international leadership college.
Michael Visser - Guitar / Bass

Michael began playing guitar at age 13. He has continued his studies by receiving a degree on music from Grand Rapards Community College for Jazz Guitar and Production. He is currently a guitarist for Hillsong church. He enjoys playing all styles of music including Jazz, Classical, Blues and Alternative rock.

Andrew Hendra - Drums
 

Andrew (or Astro Boy as he was swiftly nicknamed) began his drumming adventure at 8 years of age in a modest school band surrounding which very quickly developed into a strong passion for music. Amongst the many big name inspirational drummers, Andrew distinguishes his influential figures to be John Otto, Tim Alexander, Stewart Copeland, Danny Carey and David Garibaldi with his funky and sexy grooves. Not to mention a freaky prodigy 11 year old he saw on YouTube. Andrew has performed with various groups in many local events with the heightened honour of a show at the Sydney Opera House. In recent times Andrew has rediscovered his passion for drumming with a refreshed approach to push his music knowledge further.

 

MAXX MUSIC LESSON FAQ

 

Q: When do you offer your music lessons?

A: Our school starts at 3:30pm each weekday and runs til 8:00pm Mon-Thurs and 6:30pm Fridays.  We also run on Saturdays from 9:00am - 4:00pm

Q: What is your price for lessons?

A: We current charge a highly competitive rate of $30.00 inc GST for a half our lesson.  Some other "schools" in the area quote you a higher rate that ours, add GST, then charge you more as you get more advanced.  Beware!

Q: Is there a signup fee like with some other schools in the area?

A: No!  Simple as that!

Q: Do you offer home visits?

A: No, we operate in the professional, air-conditioned studios above our retail store.

Q Are your lessons in a group or one-to-one?

A: We believe in the benefits and results of individual lessons, so this is what we offer. From time to time we also offer group workshops but for your main lessons we recommend a focused personal lesson.

Q: What age can my child start?

A: We teach children from school-age and up

Q: I'm an adult wanting to start an instrument and I've never played before. Is it too late?

A: No way!  We help plenty of adults find their passion for music too!

Q: I have three children who want to learn different instruments.  Can I get them all in at the same time?

A: We have many families at Maxx Music in just the same boat and in most cases we can accommodate you!

Q: Do you offer gift voucher for lessons?

A: Yes we do.  Lessons are a great present for someone with as musical passion!

Q: Do Maxx Music students get discounts from your retail store?
